KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed broadly lower today in line with most regional markets on weak external factors.

At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI fell by 27.45 points to 1,839.87 after moving between 1,837.28 and 1,864.68 throughout the day.

Decliners thumped advancers by 866 to 144, with 224 counters unchanged, 373 untraded, and 19 others suspended.

Dealers said global market sentiment was affected with ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the West Asia as well as possible air strikes in Iraq.

Regionally, Japan’s Nikkei 225 reduced 2.98 per cent to 14,778.37, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.23 per cent to 24,331.41, and Singapore’s Straits Times declined 0.78 per cent to 3,288.

Of the heavyweights, Petronas Chemicals was flat at RM6.70 but Maybank fell seven sen to RM9.93, Public Bank lost 56 sen to RM18.96, TNB trimmed 12 sen to RM11.98, Axiata was two sen lower to RM6.94, and Sime Darby went down 10 sen to RM9.41.

The Finance Index fell 261.48 points to 17,079.42, the Plantation Index eased 52.17 points to 8,899.55, and the Industrial Index slid 54.86 points to 3,154.69.

The FBM Emas Index was 172.77 points lower at 12,892.99, FBMT100 Index decreased 163.05 points to 12,461.61, FBM 70 declined 98.57 points to 14,251.14, and the FBM Ace shed 116.89 points to 7,065.39.

Total volume rose to 3.42 billion units valued at RM2.564 from 3.19 billion units valued at RM2.327 billion yesterday.

Among actives, Globaltec Formation added two sen to nine sen, PDZ Holdings went up 1.5 sen to 22 sen, and Tiger Synergy and ETI Tech edged up half sen to 14.5 sen and 9.5 sen.

Sumatec eased 1.5 sen to 48.5 sen and Talam Transform went down one sen to 13 sen.

The Main Market volume rose to 2.70 billion units worth RM2.421 billion against 2.583 billion units worth RM2.207 billion yesterday.

Turnover on the ACE market increased to 634.84 million shares valued at RM132.54 million against 558.75 million shares valued at RM111.16 million yesterday.

Warrants went up to 54.27 million units worth RM6.05 million from 35.59 million units worth RM5.306 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 141.81 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 690.35 million, construction 144.51 million, trade and services 1.068 billion, technology 102.0 million, infrastructure 23.38 million, SPAC 25.21 million, finance 67.98 million, hotels 5.01 million, properties 394.39 million, plantations 26.51 million, mining 276,400, REITs 11.25 million, and closed/fund 129,500. — Bernama
