KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 ― Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower today, weighed down by losses in selected heavyweights.        

At 9.31am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 5.04  points lower at 1,866.32 points, after opening 5.25 points easier at 1,866.11.

Market breadth was negative as losers thumped gainers 528 to 68, while 191 counters were unchanged, 820 untraded and 11 others were suspended.       

Turnover stood at 357.38 million shares worth RM173.58 million.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index fell 45.33 points to 17,297.03, the Plantation Index eased 20.53 points to 8,951.66 but the Industrial Index increased 7.72 points to 3,237.49.   

The FBM Emas Index shed 54.04 points to 13,031.66, FBMT100 Index depreciated 47.04 points to 12,604.58, FBM Ace declined 61.62 points to 6,983 and the FBM 70 lost 103.41 points to 14,275.5.

Heavyweights, Petronas Gas added 20 sen to RM23.68, Genting rose three sen to RM9.90, Sime Darby was flat at RM9.50, Axiata and Maybank eased two sen each to RM6.94 and RM9.86, respectively.

Among actives, Sumatec, Land & General and MAS edged up half-a-sen each to 44.5 sen, 65.5 sen and 22.5 sen, respectively.

Marco Holdings was flat at 17.5 sen and PDZ Holdings edged down half-a-sen to 17 sen. ― Bernama
