KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1— Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed lower today, weighed down by losses in selected blue-chips and heavyweights.     

At 5 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended 8.02 points easier at 1,863.34, after moving between 1,861.6 and 1,868.01 throughout the day.

The Finance Index fell 57.54 points to 17,284.81, Industrial Index eased 18.97 points to 3,210.8 and the Plantation Index slipped 45.84 points to 8,926.35.

The FBM Emas Index was 57.19 points lower at 13,028.51, FBMT100 Index shed 57.16 points to 12,594.46, FBM 70 slipped 76.28 points to 14,302.63 and the FBM Ace depreciated 26.47 points to 7,018.15.

Losers thumped gainers 603 to 285, with 296 counters unchanged, 423 untraded and 11 others were suspended.

Total volume decreased to 2.08 billion units, valued at RM1.942 billion, compared with 2.51 billion units, valued at RM2.52 billion, transacted yesterday.

Among actives, Sumatec added 2.5 sen to 46.5 sen, Kinsteel rose seven sen to 23 sen, Talam Transform and MAS were flat at 13 sen and 22 sen, respectively, while IFCA MSC fell 3.5 sen to 23.5 sen.

Of heavyweights, Sime Darby jumped five sen to RM9.55, Maybank eased one sen to RM9.87, Public Bank declined four sen to RM19.74 while TNB and Axiata shed two sen each to RM12.40 and RM6.94, respectively. 

Main Market volume fell to 1.670 billion units, worth RM1.843 billion, from 1.90 billion units, worth RM2.381 billion, recorded on Wednesday.

Turnover on the ACE market depreciated to 344.40 million shares, valued at RM82.323 million, from yesterday’s 535.93 million shares worth RM130.998 million. 

Warrants increased to 39.742 million units, worth RM5.201 million, from yesterday’s 29.30 million units, valued at RM3.948 million.

Consumer products accounted for 105.38 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 300.74 million, construction 79.287 million, trade and services 761.21 million, technology 56.24 million, infrastructure 13.74 million, SPAC 21.263 million, finance 70.655 million, hotels 3.786 million, properties 234.96 million, plantations 18.14 million, mining 165,000, REITs 4.74 million and closed/fund 7,000. — Bernama
