KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia were lower at mid-day today, weighed on by selected heavyweights and penny stocks.

At 12.30 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 8.4 points lower at 1,874.74 after opening 8.53 points easier at 1,874.2.

Losers trounced gainers 565 to 184 with 288 counters unchanged, 602 untraded and 37 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.48 billion shares worth RM1.001 billion.

Among actives, Minetech Resources added 1.5 sen to 14.5 sen, Sumatec was flat at 42 sen,

MAS eased 2.5 sen to 20 sen and Talam Transform edged down half-a-sen to 11 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank fell three sen to RM9.97, Public Bank lost 10 sen to RM20.04, while TNB and Axiata both shed four sen to RM12.26 and RM6.90 respectively.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index slipped 79.52 points to 17,479.49, the Plantation Index dropped 12.85 points to 9,033.02 and the Industrial Index went down 28.76 points to 3,236.75.

The FBM Emas Index decreased 70.85 points to 13,067.7, the FBMT100 Index slipped 67.9 points to 12,662.88, the FBM Ace shed 51.79 points to 6,826.84 and the FBM 70 dropped 119.92 points to 14,347.07. — Bernama
