KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session easier today in the absence of fresh leads, a dealer said.
He said the market was also dampened by losses in selected heavyweight counters.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 5.06 points to 1,877.65, after hovering between 1,876.6 and 1,879.62 during the morning trading session.
Regionally, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose to 15,319.93, while Singapore's Straits Times Index inched down to 3,238.50 and the Shanghai Composite slid to 2,045.38.
Losers outnumbered gainers 378 to 265, while 340 counters were unchanged, 627 untraded and 15 others suspended.
A total of 858.94 million shares worth RM602.56 million were traded.
On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index eased 8.89 points to 3,234.96 and the Plantation Index fell 56.41 points to 9,174.5 while the Finance Index eased 4.18 points to 17,168.17.
The FBM Emas Index declined 34.81 points for 13,014.98, the FBMT100 Index decreased 34.27 points to 12,644.05, and the FBM 70 shed 39.15 points to 14,177.53 with the FBM Ace losing 0.84 point to 6,667.95.
Among actives, Econbhd added half a sen to 75.7, Minetech was flat at 15 sen while Iretex Corp added one sen to 15.5 sen.
Heavyweights Maybank depreciated one sen to RM9.82, while Public Bank rose four sen to RM19.63 and TNB was unchanged at RM12.18. — Bernama
