KULAI, April 19 — The body of a 63-year-old man, reported missing while cycling in Taman Gemilang here on Monday, was recovered from Tasik Biru today.
The search and rescue (SAR) team found the body floating on the surface of the lake at 11.55am near the park where he was last seen on Monday.
Kulai police chief Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow said the body has been formally identified as Liew You Foo.
“Investigators believe that the elderly victim may have fallen into the lake after the SAR team found a pair of red shoes on the lake’s surface at 11.20am.
“The victim’s body was taken to Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital here for an autopsy,” Tok said in a statement today.
On Monday, Liew’s son filed a police report after his father failed to return home at 2pm, as expected, after heading out on his bicycle earlier in the day.
In response, a SAR operation was carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department as well as the police.
The SAR team later found the victim’s bicycle and cap at the top of Bukit Gemilang at 4.18pm that same day.
Meanwhile, Kulai fire and rescue station operations commander Assistant Fire Chief Fairuz Helmi Mohd Ali said SAR personnel had used a boat to recover the victim’s body from the lake.
He said a total of 19 personnel from the Kulai and Skudai fire and rescue stations were involved in the operation.
