PASIR GUDANG, Jan 6 — A senior citizen who lives with his daughter who has been diagnosed with brain tumour is seeking financial help to pay for her medication and necessities, including disposable pampers.
Abd Hameed Uthman, 82, who himself is wheelchair-bound after fracturing his thigh bone in 2019 and his daughter Hathijah Beevi, 49, are currently surviving on a monthly allowance of RM700 from the Social Welfare Department and Baitulmal.
The father and daughter lost their source of income when Hameed’s son Abdul Raseed passed away due to cancer in 2015 while Hathijah who was working in Singapore has been jobless for a year after being diagnosed with brain tumour.
“I was running a food stall before but had to give up the stall after falling near my house and fracturing my thigh bone. Since then I had to give up the food stall because I was not able to pay the rent.
“My son who was the breadwinner of the family passed away in 2015 at the age of 35 due to cancer and since then there has been no income,” he told reporters after receiving basic necessities from Econsave hypermarket under the Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Taman Cendana, here today.
According to Abd Hameed, he would have to pay rent for the house he was renting and spends about RM200 a month on disposable diapers and medication.
He added that Hathijah had just undergone her second operation for a brain tumour on December 26, and would need follow-up treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital and Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru.
Abd Hameed, a Singaporean had married Rogaya Beevi Kadir Maiden (Malaysian) who passed away in 2014, but he has yet to obtain an identity card that would ease the process of applying for assistance.
Meanwhile, Econsave Cash and Carry general manager Mas Imran Adam hoped the basic necessities like disposable diapers, mattresses and food products provided by the hypermarket would help ease the burden of the family.
Members of the public who wished to contribute can transfer financial help to Hathijah Beevi through her Public Bank account (6897518224) or contact 016-7719116. — Bernama
