IPOH, Dec 12 —The Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) in Ipoh has set up a bed management unit (BMU) as an improvement measure to expedite the admission of patients to wards from the Emergency and Trauma Department (ETD).

Its director Dr Megat Iskandar Megat Abdul Hamid said the unit, which now operated round-the-clock daily, had also helped facilitate the discharge process of patients from all wards.

“Critical patients who have stabilised and need further treatment are transferred to cluster hospitals to reduce congestion at HRPB.

“This will enable the HRPB staff to provide more efficient care to critical patients in the ETD,” he said in a statement tonight.

Dr Megat Iskandar was responding to a portal’s report that some patients were not being treated adequately at the hospital’s emergency department.

He added there was still room for improvement for HRPB to further improve the quality of medical care provided to patients.

Therefore, he said the management would review and discuss with the Perak State Health Department and the Health Ministry on how to increase the capacity to treat critical patients at the hospital.

Dr Megat Iskandar said the ETDs in government hospitals always received and treated a large number of emergency patients, including cases brought in by ambulance, walk-in patients, and referral cases.

Despite this, he said the department always strived to provide the best possible treatment to the patients. — Bernama
