IPOH, Dec 2 — Hundreds gathered at the Pasar Tanjung Rambutan here to meet Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as he visited his Tambun constituency for the first time as Prime Minister.

This is the first time where Anwar officially returned to his constituency following his appointment as the 10th Prime Minister nine days ago.

The entrance leading to the market have been closed with police and traffic personnel stationed at the surrounding junctions to control the traffic flow.

Anwar was scheduled to reach the market at 11.30am, but despite being delayed for about 45 minutes, the crowd eagerly waited for his arrival and he was welcomed with the famous “Reformasi” roar.

People also took the opportunity to take videos and pictures of Anwar’s arrival via their mobile phone.

Anwar spent about 15 minutes visiting the traders and stall owners in the market. He also had brief chat with a few residents who also managed to squeeze in for selfies with the Tambun MP.

Anwar was also accompanied by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad during his walkabout session to meet the Tambun residents.

Anwar was also scheduled to visit the Manjoi Health Clinic, which is under construction, today at the Jalan Masjid, Kampung Masjid, however the programme was postponed to a different date.

He then proceeded to perform the Friday prayers at the Muhammad Al-Fateh Mosque in Taman Jati in Jelapang.

Earlier, Anwar also had an audience with the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah at Istana Kinta at 10.50am and left the Palace at noon.

Anwar secured the Tambun parliamentary seat during GE15 with a 3,736-vote majority, garnering 49,625 votes against contenders Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu of Perikatan Nasional, Datuk Aminuddin Md. Hanafiah (Barisan Nasional) and Abdul Rahim Tahir (Gerakan Tanah Air).

PH which consists of PKR, DAP, Amanah, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) as well as ally Muda garnered the highest number of 82 seats in the polls which took place on November 19.

He received the support of several other political parties which enabled him to be appointed to the position on November 24.
