KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — The Health Ministry recorded 68 new deaths from Covid-19 as at midnight, bringing the total lives lost in the country to 27,593.
Out of the new deaths logged, 12 died before they could be hospitalised.
Labuan had the highest fatality rate, with 15.0 deaths per 10,000 people. This is closely followed by Selangor at 14.5 deaths per 10,000 people and Kuala Lumpur at 14.2 deaths per 10,000 people.
The national average for deaths currently stands at 8.4 per 10,000 people, with only eight other states recording lower averages. They are Sabah (6.1), Kelantan (4.8), Perak (3.9), Pahang, Perlis and Sarawak (3.7 each), Terengganu (3.3) and Putrajaya (2.0).
The CovidNow website showed that 68.9 per cent of the deaths were unvaccinated individuals, while 21.7 per cent were partially vaccinated and 9.4 per cent were fully vaccinated.
More than half of the latest deaths recorded (53.9 per cent) were those aged above 60, continuing yesterday’s trend. In comparison, 45.8 per cent involved those between the ages of 18 and 59.
In terms of gender, more men died, making up 56.9 per cent of the total number, while women represented 43.1 per cent.
From the total number of deaths, 86.8 per cent were Malaysians.
Yesterday, Malaysia recorded 7,921 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of infected to 2,356,507 cases.
It was the 11th straight day that Malaysia recorded cases under the 10,000 mark.
New infections
The Health Ministry also updated its data on daily Covid-19 cases by state.
As at midnight, Sarawak — which is still under a state Emergency — recorded the highest rate of Covid-19 cases per 10,000 people at 83.5.
This was followed by Kelantan (80.8), Terengganu (73.2), Perlis (55.5), Penang (51.7), and Pahang (49.9).
Those six states recorded above national average infectivity rate per 10,000 people which stood at 43.2.
Meanwhile states that recorded below the national average include Kedah at 39.7, followed by Putrajaya (39.7), Perak (39.3), Melaka (38.6), Johor (37.6), Selangor (29.7), Sabah (29.5), Negri Sembilan (23.1), Kuala Lumpur (20.1) and Labuan (3.0).
