KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 — False academic credentials that involve falsifying documents may be considered a criminal offence under the Penal Code, PAS said today.

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan called for a detailed investigation, even as five Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, including two ministers and a deputy minister, were accused of having dodgy academic qualifications.

“PAS does not question the academic eligibility of any party, but the act of falsifying documents to obtain rights to a certain interest is unforgivable,” Nasrudin said in a statement.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya has faced calls for his resignation after he admitted that his degree, which he previously claimed to have received from the United Kingdom’s Cambridge University, was from a suspected degree mill called Cambridge International University in the United States.

Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian, and Perak executive councillor Paul Yong Choo Kiong were later alleged to have dubious tertiary academic qualifications.
