KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 — Two people were killed while another was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash at Batu Tujuh along Jalan Tawar-Kulim near Baling, Kedah, on Tuesday morning.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department, one of the victims, 23-year-old Alina Mohd Shapri, was travelling in a Perodua Myvi from Baling to Kulim for work when the incident occurred, according to a report published in Sinar Harian today.
Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Superintendent Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said another fatality, a man travelling in a Proton Saga, is still being identified.
He said both victims were trapped in their vehicles, with the male victim extricated by firefighters while the female victim was assisted and removed by members of the public.
Both were confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.
He added that another man in the Proton Saga sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by medical responders.
The department received an emergency call at 6.22am and deployed teams to the location, which is about 24km away.
“Upon arrival, we found a crash involving two vehicles, with two fatalities and one seriously injured,” he said.
Meanwhile, Baling district police chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe said the accident also involved a bus.
He said initial investigations found that the Perodua Myvi driven by the female victim and a bus driven by a 47-year-old local man were travelling in the same direction from Baling to Kulim.
A Proton Saga driven by a 26-year-old man with a 27-year-old male passenger was travelling in the opposite direction from Kulim towards Gerik.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
