KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — An electrical engineering factory owner and two workers including a Bangladeshi man were killed when the power supply machine which was said to be in the final trial stage, exploded at the factory here today.
Gombak district police chief ACP Samsor Maarof said the three men in their 50s died on the scene.
He added two others who died during the 11am incident were locals while another Bangladeshi worker was injured.
“It is understood that the machine has been tested several times before and this is the ‘final test’. There is no criminal element in this incident,” he told reporters at the scene.
Samsor said the interior and the roof part of the factory were severely damaged by metal fragments flying up to 100 metres as a result of the explosion.
“The factory has a valid licence and has been operating since three years ago,” he added.
Meanwhile, Batu Arang Fire and Rescue Station chief Yazli Yahya said eight personnel and an officer from the fire station rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 11 am.
A worker from an adjacent factory known only as Azimah, said she never expected that the noise she heard was an explosion.
“I heard a very loud noise and the sound of falling metals, I thought it was some children throwing things but did not expect a machine exploded,” the woman said.
All victims were taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital, however, their name has not been released by the police. — Bernama
