KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 ― The first Parliamentary meeting after the May 9 general election will begin on July 16, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.
He said the sitting will last 20 days.
“We have also decided on when Parliament will meet. Parliament will meet on July 16 for the swearing-in and also for the speech from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“Also, we will combine the two sittings to become one sitting, which will go on for 20 days, and in that time, we will discuss matters and papers relating to the abolishment of few laws, as we had promised, especially that related to the Sales and Services Tax (SST).
“GST will be abolished, the Anti-Fake News law too will be abolished, and there will be few amendments to other laws which we will announce,” Dr Mahathir said in a press conference today.
The press conference was held to announce several decisions reached by the Cabinet in its weekly meeting in Putrajaya.
Dr Mahathir said that the swearing-in of the new Dewan Rakyat Speaker and the deputies, as well as the Dewan Negara president and the MPs will all be held on the same day.
