SHAH ALAM, May 29 — The Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) GPMS (Federation of Peninsular Malay Students) Alumni Association today lodged a police report against the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) over its alleged demands, calling for among others, to open entry to the varsity to all races.

UiTM GPMS Alumni Association president Muhamad Akmal Mohd Dahalan said the demands were deemed as an attempt to incite racial sentiments among the people in the country.

“We take these demands seriously as they are clearly against Article 153 of the Federal Constitution which ensures special rights for the Malays and Bumiputeras.

“The demands have incited uneasiness among the Malays and Bumiputeras. As such, we urge the police to take action against Hindraf over its statement which could stir racial tension and create untoward incidents,” he told reporters after lodging the report at the Shah Alam District Police headquarters here.

Also present were six other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) — namely the UiTM Alumni Association, GPMS, GPMS Alumni Association, Engineering Society UiTM, Persatuan Alumni MPP UiTM and the Perlis UiTM Alumni — whose members staged a peaceful protest urging the police to stop Hindraf from making more statements over the issue.

“We are also calling on the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, not to approve the demands by Hindraf,” said Muhamad Akmal.

Meanwhile, GPMS president Zamri Mohd Isa said all representatives of the NGOs planned to seek an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, in the near future for UiTM to be protected under the Conference of Rulers.

He said the move was necessary to protect the education institution of the Bumiputeras from being smeared by irresponsible parties.

Hindraf yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Institutional Reforms Committee (IRC), listing 25 proposals to redress the issue of the bottom 75 per cent (B75) income bracket of the Indian community, including a mandatory 15 per cent intake into public universities, polytechnics, UiTM and Permata kindergartens for the B75 every year. — Bernama
