GEORGE TOWN, May 28 ― Penang PKR Youth chief Khairil Anuar Kamarudin urged his party’s central leadership today to be cautious before embracing former Barisan Nasional (BN) members.
Calling them “parasites”, he said such people might attempt to destroy the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition from within.
“Due to PH winning the federal government, we expect more parasites from Umno to enter PH but they are doing this not to serve the party,” he said in a press conference here.
He said the leadership must not accept these “parasites” who are only taking advantage of the party for their own personal gains.
“We don’t want a repeat of what happened in 1998 and 2008, when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was framed and jailed,” he said.
He proposed that new appointments of officers in PKR, especially those who work closely with the party de facto leader, be vetted through by the party’s central political bureau first.
He said it is better that PKR grassroots were given the chance for such positions in the party instead of allowing former Umno members to join the party and hold such positions.
Penang PKR Youth information chief Mohd Ikhwan Nasser claimed a former Umno member was recently seen trying to join Anwar’s media team despite having criticised PH in video recordings in which he was wearing attire with the BN logo.

Mohd Ikhwan expressed his concern over the motives of a former Umno member’s interests in wanting to join PKR after the election.
“He is even going around claiming to be a media officer for Anwar to get access to other PH leaders and we are very suspicious of his motives,” he said.
Mohd Ikhwan said he will try to contact the ex-Umno man directly to ask his motives in wanting to be part of PKR after having criticised it harshly.
“We will try to meet him and get an explanation from him,” he said.
