IPOH, May 23 — Perak Mentri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu today announced that the contracts of all local councillors who were appointed by the previous government had been terminated with immediate effect.
“New councillors will be announced soon after we hear the suggestions from political parties,” he told reporters after chairing the first exco meeting.
Faizal also announced that the state government will terminate the positions of all village chiefs by June 30 this year.
“We will appoint new village chiefs after their termination,” he said.
“Public facilities such as public halls, which are regulated by the village chiefs, will now be managed by the district office or village chief office,” said Ahmad Faizal.
When asked if the councillors can be appointed from local non-government organisations, Fazial said that the matter will be discussed by the state official who is in charge of the local government and will be announced soon.
Faizal also said civil servants in the mentri besar’s office will not be replaced.
“We will not practise any discrimination. The civil servants who are in my office are the same ones who served the former mentri besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir,” he said.
“I found that the civil servants in the State Secretariat are very professional. I appreciate them for that. And I’m confident and believe they will continue to give their support to the new administration,” said Ahmad Faizal.
Earlier, Faizal announced his portfolio and also the portfolio held by the 10 excos.
Faizal will serve as the chairman of the standing committee for the finance, land, statutory body (government-linked companies), natural resources and economic planning portfolios.
Asmuni Awi holds the portfolio of religion and Islamic studies, industry, rural and entrepreneur development.
Yong Choo Kiong holds the portfolio for housing, local government, public transportation, non-Islamic affairs and new village.
Abdul Yunus Jamahri will be in charge of the public facilities, infrastructure, agriculture and plantation portfolio.
Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin holds the portfolio of investment and corridor development.
Abdul Aziz Bari holds the portfolio of education, science, environmental, green technology and information.
A. Sivanesan holds the portfolio of health, consumers affairs, civil society, national integration and human resource.
Wong May Ing in charge of the character development, women development, family and welfare portfolio.
Tan Kar Hing holds the portfolio of tourism, arts and culture.
Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim holds the portfolio of communication, multimedia, non-governmental organisation, and cooperative developments, while Howard Lee Chuan How holds the portfolio of youth, sports and human capital.
