KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — Amid dissatisfaction over the Penang state exco line-up, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow stressed that he would monitor closely the exco’s performance to ensure excellent service for Penang.
He also hoped that the 10 councillors elected, besides himself, who were sworn in on May 16, would prove his faith in them.
“The state exco has already been set up, let us move on and hope that the state executive councillors that are appointed as a whole will prove my faith in appointing them and deliver the best service to the people of Penang,” he said.
“Let’s focus on delivery to justify the people’s faith and choice in Pakatan Harapan on May 9, but we will also monitor closely this performance.”
This comes as several PKR leaders had spoken out against the alleged DAP-centric line up that only featured three PKR leaders.
Namely, those councillors are Pinang Tunggal’s Datuk Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, Seberang Perai assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin and Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain of Batu Maung.
Out of the three, two are new faces among the excos.
The Penang DAP chairman also said that he hoped to see contributions from Amanah and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
“For the new parties in the government, Amanah and Bersatu, we hope to see them perform because even though they are not in the state executive line-up, there is ample room for all of us to perform and deliver,” he said.
“Under the Westminster parliamentary system, the chief executive can if necessary have a reshuffle, but I’m not saying it is needed now.”
“Let’s focus on the performance of the current executive councilors and we will listen and monitor according to those performances,” added Chow.
