KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 ― The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition today received its certificate of registration.

The Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim handed over the certificate to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is also chairman of PH in a brief ceremony at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) office in Petaling Jaya, Selangor this morning.

The PH pact comprises PPBM, PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.

Yesterday, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) approved the political coalition’s registration as an official pact.

Earlier this year, the RoS had claimed it was unable to approve PH’s application for a registration certificate because PPBM, a party founded by the PM, had failed to provide necessary information for the process to be complete.

In April, PPBM was subsequently deregistered as a political party ahead of the 14th General Election.

The decision by the RoS to do so was under Section 14(5) of the Societies Act 1996 which reads that the registrar is allowed to make a provisional order for the dissolution of the society if the required details were not provided.
