KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — Pinang Tunggal assemblyman Datuk Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman has been named Penang’s Deputy Chief Minister I in the state government’s announcement of its executive councillors for 2018 today. 

The statement from the Penang chief Minister’s office stated that Zakiyuddin will oversee Islamic religious affairs, industrial development and community relations in the state.

Zakiyuddin, who was formerly the state Islamic Religious Council deputy president, succeeds Johor Batu Pahat MP Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon.

Selected as Deputy Chief Minister II was Perai assemblyman Dr P. Ramasamy who will oversee matters involving the state economic planning, education, human capital development and, science, technology and innovation.

The Women and Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness and, Non-Islamic Religious Affairs portfolios were handed to second term exco and Bagan Lalang assemblyman Chong Eng.

Dato Keramat’s Jagdeep Singh Deo will take on responsibility over the state’s local government, housing and, town and country planning.

Sungai Puyu’s Phee Boon Poh will helm the Welfare, Caring Society and Environment portfolios while PKR Seberang Perai assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin will take charge over health, agriculture and agro-based industries and, rural development.

The new faces in the exco lin- up are Tanjong Bungah assemblyman Zairil Khir Johari, Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee, Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin and  Batu Maung assemblyman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain.

Zairil is tasked with the state’s Works, Utilities, and Flood Mitigation portfolios while Soon will oversee the Youth and Sports portfolio.

Yeoh will take charge of the Tourism Development and, Heritage, Culture and Arts portfolios and Abdul Halim will oversee domestic and international trade, consumer affairs, and entrepreneur development.
