JOHOR BARU, May 15 — A name list of nominees for the 10-member Johor executive council is ready and will be submitted to the state palace for consideration today.
Malay Mail understands that the exco will have three representatives each from DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), and two each from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and PKR.
A source close to the state Pakatan Harapan (PH) disclosed the names of the eight exco nominees who are mainly two-term assemblymen with experience in those portfolios assigned to them.
They are: Aminolhuda Hassan (Education), Dzulkefly Ahmad (Housing and Local Government), Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (International Trade, Tourism and Utilities), Dr S Ramakrishnan (Consumerism and Employment), Gan Peck Cheng (Unity), Khuzzan Abu Bakar (Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage), Mazlan Bujang (Public Works) and Sheikh Omar Ali (Religious Affairs).
However, Malay Mail was unable to learn the names of the proposed excos for the remaining portfolios on finance, health, women and family.
“The list is not final and is subject to changes. At the same time, the PH leadership has also added another separate list for the Johor state legislative assembly speaker and deputy speaker roles,” the source who spoke on condition of anonymity said.
The official swearing-in ceremony of the new state councillors, led by newly-minted mentri besar Datuk Osman Sapian, is expected to be held tomorrow at the Istana Besar here.
In the May 9 general election, the four-party PH pact seized Johor, the birthplace of Umno and the lynchpin of the Barisan Nasional coalition that been in power both at the state level and nationally since Independence in 1957.
PH won 36 out of the Johor’s 56 seats with DAP sweeping 14 state seats, the highest number, followed by Amanah at nine, PPBM at eight and PKR at five.
Umno secured 19 state seats in the polls that saw MCA and MIC decimated while PAS only won one seat.
