IPOH, May 11 — Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been asked by the Perak Sultan to prove it has majority support before it can receive his consent to form a government.
Perak Dewan Negara member Datuk Seri Annuar Zaini said Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah had received the Election Commission’s (EC) report which stated PH had the most seats at 29.
“Sultan Nazrin Shah has given Pakatan the option to form a government with the condition that they have a simple majority of 30,” he said.
Speaking to reporters who gathered in front of Istana Kinta here today, where leaders of the four PH parties met the Ruler, Annuar noted that the office of Sultan Nazrin Shah also received a letter from Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) to inform the Sultan that the party has the simple majority with Barisan having 27 seats and PAS three seats and both parties agreeing to form a coalition government.
“However, Sultan Nazrin Shah wanted to confirm the content of the letter and told Barisan to bring the 30 assemblymen on Saturday morning to prove the support,” he said, adding that if PH could not prove it has a simple majority, the Ruler cannot postpone the formation of the state government.
“Pakatan has requested the Ruler postpone the meeting until 2pm,” he said.
Annuar noted that this was the second time the Ruler had met both parties after GE14.
He added the Sultan was guided by the State Constitution.
Earlier, the state chairmen of the four state PH parties, namely Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia), Mohd Nur Manuty (PKR), Nga Kor Ming (DAP) and Asmuni Awi (Amanah) arrived at Istana Kinta to meet Sultan Nazrin Shah.
They arrived at about 3.25pm before leaving the palace grounds about 30 minutes later without speaking to the press.
Their meeting with the Perak Ruler also attracted a small group of supporters who gathered outside the palace.
They waved PKR flags and passing motorists also honked to show support.
