SETIU, May 8 — The Election Commission (EC) arranged special flights today to Pulau Redang, Setiu and Pulau Perhentian to carry personnel, equipment and ballot boxes for the 14th general election (GE14).

Terengganu EC director Nik Andy Suwardy Amry said four flights — the first in EC history — used the American Eurocopter AS350B3 aircraft to send eight ballot boxes to the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulau Redang and SK Pulau Perhentian voting centres at 2.25pm.

The to-and-fro trips were completed at 4.20pm.

“In the past, we used boat services to ferry personnel, ballot boxes and equipment but this time around, we took into account the safety of the officers and the weather factors (turbulent sea conditions), so we arranged for these special flights.

“Each trip also comprises a policeman, polling station head and a voting clerk,” Nik Andy said when met by reporters after witnessing the delivery of the ballot boxes to Pulau Redang at the Padang Astaka Sungai Tarom here.

He said preparation at all polling stations went smoothly and as many as 12,989 EC employees had been appointed to facilitate the polling process throughout the state which had a total of 736,632 eligible voters. — Bernama
