SEBERANG PERAI, May 6 — Disgruntled grassroots members who quit PKR should remain with the party and “kick” out the party leaders that they were unhappy with, Penang PKR chairman Datuk Mansor Othman said.
He said the grassroots members do not have to leave the party just because they are unhappy with the leaders and him.
“If I am such a bad leader, why are they leaving the party? Stay on and kick me out of the party,” he told Malay Mail when contacted today.
He was responding to the resignation of about 200 people who claimed they were grassroots members of PKR.
Earlier today, the group, led by PKR Tasek Gelugor division committee member Mohd Fauzi Hassan, told a press conference that they had to quit the party because they were sidelined by the party leadership.
Fauzi claimed that they could not contact or meet with Mansor to discuss any party issues.
“The state and national party leadership are the same, they treated us like tongkol kayu,” he claimed.
He stressed that they were not planning to join another party after this.
The 200 members were purportedly from PKR Tasek Gelugor, Permatang Pauh, Bukit Mertajam and Nibong Tebal.
Mansor said he has never heard of Fauzi.
He dismissed the group’s resignation announcement, saying it was another election political game.
“This is election period so it is normal, don’t be surprised to hear more of such things,” he said.
Just last week, the state PKR Youth chief Asrol Sani Abdul Razak quit the party along with 70 others after the Bertam state seat he was eyeing was given to Pakatan Harapan partner, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
