BAGAN DATUK, May 6 — Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi explained today that several Barisan Nasional banners hung up in Bagan Datuk bear the Telugu script in appreciation of the constituents from the community in the parliamentary constituency.
The script was not Bangladeshi (Bengali), Nepali or Pakistani as alleged in a social media viral message which claimed that voters of these nationalities might be brought to the constituency ahead of polling on May 9 in the 14th general election.
“Of course, the script is a little different from Tamil but it is Telugu, not Bangladeshi (Bengali), Nepali …. I respect the Telugu community in Bagan Datuk. I am not bringing in foreigners to vote here,” he said at a meeting with the Indian community organised by the Bagan Datuk myPPP here.
Ahmad Zahid was asked to comment on the circulation on social media of the BN banners bearing the Telugu script with the wrong message.
He said he would not compromise if the people of Bagan Datuk and Malaysia were cheated over the banners. — Bernama
