KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 — Candidates who can’t even fill up their nomination forms properly are unfit to run the country, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.
Mocking opposition candidates who were disqualified from contesting on Nomination Day, the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said that the ruling coalition is more “careful” when screening their won GE14 candidates.
“How do you expect people who can’t even fill a form to run the country,” he said in his speech an event with the BN election machinery and residents in Bandar Tun Razak today.
Najib explained that BN took great pains in screening their candidates several times, describing the process as a tedious and thorough one.
“We are careful when finalising our candidates, we don’t simply take and place (tangkap dan muat),” he said.
He said the candidates are prepared in advance to ensure they comply with all procedures.
In a subtle jibe aimed at Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Najib said that a 93-year-old leader who decided to join Pakatan Harapan by forming his own party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) had no choice but to join the “black eye” party (PKR) to contest in GE14.
“They had to contest under the party because they just didn’t know how to run their party,” he said.
Najib also said the former prime minister who ruled for 22 years had also focused on building Proton, which had later failed, instead of focusing on creating an integrated public transportation network.
Najib also revealed that the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) had told him earlier today that they had brought forward their minimum wage proposal to Dr Mahathir when he was PM, but the idea was ignored.
“He ignored their request because he was busy taking care of his cronies. I can list them out but I will not,” Najib said drawing loud applause from the crowd.
