TELUK INTAN, April 18 — Perak will get its second Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Teluk Intan.

Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who announced today the new one-stop centre, said it was one of the government’s initiatives to further improve the lives of Teluk Intan residents.

“It is a bright initiative and there is no other facility like UTC in the world.

“Over 70 million visitors nationwide have benefitted from it,” the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the PR1MA@Teluk Intan housing project here.

Najib also announced the launch of a new People’s Housing project (PPR) in Teluk Intan.

“We plan to build 500 PPR houses here, in two phases of 250 houses each,” he said.

The UTC and PPR housing projects were two requests made by incumbent Teluk Intan MP Datuk Mah Siew Keong to Najib on behalf of the Teluk Intan people.

Another was the installation of floodlights at the local SMK Seri Kandi stadium, which Najib also approved.

Najib called on Teluk Intan voters to make the right decision for their future by picking a representative who could provide them with benefits and progress.

“BN has a proven track record and you have a ‘native’ MP who will ensure that our projects are completed for your benefit,” said Najib.

“There is no reason to look for other candidates when you have a minister here who is willing to fight for you and bring development to Teluk Intan.”

He then assured attendees that Malaysia’s economy was humming along, saying the two projects announced today would not have been possible otherwise.

Najib also said he would not have been able to consider Mah’s request for an increase to the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) if the government was struggling for funds.

Staying on the topic of BR1M, he accused BN’s rivals of hypocrisy by first criticising the scheme but then incorporating the scheme into their manifesto.

“They have no shame,” he said, adding his coalition’s rivals were adept only at criticising.

“On May 9, I urge all of you to come out and vote for BN to ensure that Teluk Intan continues to move forward,” he told the cheering crowd of over 1,500.

Also present were caretaker Perak mentri besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir and Mah, incumbent Teluk Intan MP.

Mah said the PR1MA project, located along Batu 4, Changkat Jong here, is scheduled for completion by 2020.

He said 957 single- and double-storey units would be built on a 60.7ha plot, with the first phase consisting of 523 single-storey units.

The houses will be priced between RM185,000 and RM250,000, with an estimated gross development value of RM232 million.

“The Batu 4 area is set to see a population growth of 3,000 students and lecturers, in addition to nearly 1,000 households in the PR1MA homes,” Mah said.

“This area has the potential to see large economic growth and these projects are part of a plan to transform the landscape of Teluk Intan.”
