SEGAMBUT, April 11 — Already announced to contest Segambut, DAP’s Hannah Yeoh said Pakatan Harapan has an advantage over Barisan Nasional (BN) in Kuala Lumpur since voters have more time to get to know the Opposition pact’s candidates.
Yeoh herself had today visited two homes in Desa Segambut Tengah over a landslide that caused a dispute between neighbours ahead of official campaigning period, together with incumbent MP Lim Lip Eng by her side.
“We have that advantage over them since BN has not announced their candidates, we can get the ball rolling,” she told reporters.
“This gives us more time to familiarise ourselves with the respective constituencies and it will allow us more interaction with the people.”
Yeoh also said that her ten-year experience as state assemblyman for Subang Jaya would help her address local issues more effectively, since she is familiar with how local councils work.
She also stressed that Lim’s guidance would ensure continuity when it comes to addressing local issues.
“I am not starting from zero, I am starting where he left off,” said Yeoh.
The landslide here involved a slope behind two houses along Jalan 5/60a that collapsed on Monday, causing damages to two homes at the top.
According to the owner of one of the affected houses, Salina Sadeli, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was informed of the incident but authorities had only placed a plastic cover over the slope.
“We are worried that it is unsafe for us to stay here, City Hall has not told us anything although there are cracks on the floor,” she said.
“They must assure us that it is safe here, if the landslide was caused by construction work on the house at the foot of the slope, then the owner must compensate us.”
Yeoh said she and Lim would write to the DBKL, the non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia, and the Department of Lands and Mines, requesting for an official report and that an assessment be carried out on the land.
