KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 ― Family members of one of the victims still missing after being swept away by the current while fishing at Sungai Gasi near the Sungai Buloh Camp yesterday camped in a car for more than 12 hours for latest information on the search and rescue (SAR) operation for their loved one.
Muhd Badrul Baharin Syamsul Azhar, 21, the eldest child of missing Jeleha Hashim, 48, said he and two younger siblings, as well as an aunt, were on the bridge near the Fire control Post, about seven kilometres from the scene of the incident, since 9pm yesterday.
He said the last time he saw his mother was last Sunday.
“My mother always goes out fishing with my father. It was last Sunday I saw her. It was only a glimpse of her as she was in a car,” he told reporters here today.
His aunt, only known as Yati, 44, said they would wait until her sister or her body was found.
Despite the hot weather, the family members seemed not to want to move away from the place.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zailan, 45, whose sister, Silawati, 31, is among those still missing, said he did not expect his sister to be among the victims in the incident.
“Before going to work yesterday, I passed-by the area and knew there was a drowning case, but did not realise that my sister was among the victims,” he said, adding that he was informed that Silawati was among those feared drowned in the incident by his wife at about 8pm yesterday and then went to the scene.
He said he seldom met Silawati, who has two children, as they lived far away.
The woman was reported to be fishing with her husband, Mohd Rizal Mat Desa, 31, but the husband managed to swim to safety.
Besides Jeleha and Silawati, another victim still missing is Rapawi Jum’ada, 37.
The body of Indonesian Hashir, 38, was found at 9.49pm yesterday, while the second victim, Jamaluddin Rapawi, 14, was found at 1.26am today. ― Bernama
