BUKIT MERTAJAM, Feb 18 — The body of a 46-day-old baby girl whose death was linked to suspected abuse by her parents at the family home in Kampung Tok Panjang, Bukit Tengah, is still at the forensic unit of the Seberang Jaya Hospital.
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said this was because dental specialists wanted to examine bite marks on the cheeks and body of Nurul Ain Umairah Muhamad Firdaus tomorrow.
“Dental specialists have informed the police they will examine and conduct tests on the several bite marks on the baby’s body, in addition to conducting dental examination on the victim’s parents to identify who bit the baby,” he said here today.
Nurul Ain Umairah died at 10.45am on Thursday while on the way to the hospital.
Based on a post-mortem report, the infant died due to brain haemorrhage. Besides that, there were several bruises, scratches and other injuries on the body.
The police have remanded the parents for seven days to facilitate investigations under Section 31 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001.
Meanwhile, the victim’s grandfather, who wanted to be known only as Saidon, said the remains would be collected upon completion of police procedures and investigations.
The 53-year-old said the family was leaving it to the police to mete out justice for his fourth grandchild. — Bernama
