KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30 ― M. Indira Gandhi's ex-husband is still in the country, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun confirmed today.
The Star Online reported that police confirmed this following checks with the Immigration Department.
“We have always searched for him and the daughter.
“Our biggest obstacles is lack of leads. I urge anyone with information to contact the police as soon as possible,” the report stated.
Indira's ex-husband, Muhammad Riduan Abdullah had taken daughter Prasana Diksa away when she was just 11 months old.
The search for Muhammad Riduan and Prasana followed the landmark ruling yesterday where the Federal Court ruled in Indira’s favour, nullifying the unilateral conversion of her three children ― Tevi Darshiny, 20, Karan Dinesh, 18 and Prasana Diksa, now aged nine ― to Islam by her ex-husband.
The court ruled that the Registrar of Muallafs (Muslim converts) had acted beyond the “limits of power” in registering the children as Muslims when conditions for their conversion were not fully met.
Justice Tan Sri Zainun Ali said, since the children were not present during the conversion and the conditions were not fulfilled therefore the registrar has no power to register them as Muslims.
She said the registrar misconstrued the extent of his authority in the matter and had “no justification” to issue a certificate of conversion for the children.
