PUTRAJAYA, Dec 3 — The use of dangerous synthetic drugs are on the rise, warned Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim when calling for concerted effort to combat their growing popularity.
The women, family and community development minister urged the police, the National Anti Drug Agency (AADK) and even school administrators to take added steps to discourage the use of the substances that she said could put users into a zombie-like state.
“New and more dangerous drugs are making their way into local communities. The culprits that are distributing these dangerous substances are getting more creative, even using them in candies, baiting school children.
“I advise people to stay away from such drugs as it is extremely difficult to rehabilitate those who become addicted to them, “ she said at the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) Run for Love at Putrajaya’s Taman Botani today.
She said her ministry was already working with other agencies to raise awareness about the dangers of synthetic drugs.
However, she said such efforts must be intensified to better convey the dangers of the synthetic substances.
“I would not like to see, by 2050, that we have many zombies walking around ,” Rohani said.
