IPOH, Nov 21 — Perak is set to receive 55 new ambulances, with 28 of them to begin operation Thursday, amid complaints involving emergency cases.
State Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon (BN — Chenderiang) said today the balance will be arriving next year.
“This new ambulances will complement the 95 ambulances in health clinics in the state,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the state assembly here.
Earlier in the assembly, Dr Mah refuted Lim Pek Har’s (DAP — Menglembu) allegation that Perak lacks ambulance to send patients to hospitals.
“It is not true. The number of ambulances depends on timing. Sometimes there will be a surge of emergency cases that led to lack of ambulance,” he said.
"There are also times when ambulances are sent for maintainence," he added.
He also denied claims by Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP — Sitiawan) that many had died as there were no ambulances to send them to hospitals.
Ngeh had earlier said that in Manjung district, five ambulances had broken down.
“Currently there are only 11 ambulances to service 250,000 people in the district,” he said.
“There is acute shortage of ambulance. So much so that many had died as there are no ambulance to send them to hospital for treatment,” he added.
