SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang won the most votes in the party’s re-election of its central executive committee (CEC) today.
Kit Siang won 1,199 votes, coming in ahead of Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo who garnered 1,193 votes.
Party secretary general Lim Guan Eng came in third, ahead of national organising secretary Anthony Loke and Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong.
A total of 1,346 ballots were cast by delegates who attended the re-election today.
Among other members who made the top 20 CEC line-up were Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai and Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua.
The 20 elected members of the CEC line-up remained largely unchanged compared to the 2013 party CEC elections, except for two new additions.
Johor state opposition leader Boo Cheng Hau and the late former DAP national chairman Karpal Singh were out of the line-up.
They were replaced by Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar and former Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu respectively.
Independent auditors Grant Thornton conducted today’s election, which saw 36 spoilt votes with no indication of unreturned votes.
Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, whose inclusion came after the party’s tabulation error in the 2012 party elections that led to the long-running standoff with RoS, came in 19th in the vote, making it to the CEC by a comfortable margin.
The 10 appointed members of the 30-seat CEC were Stephen Wong Tien Fatt, Jannie Lasimbang, Khoo Poay Tiong, Yeo Bee Yin, Ong Kian Ming, Dr John Brian Anthony, Wong Kah Woh, Hannah Yeoh, Thomas Su, and Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji.
