KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The prevailing peace in the country which has enabled Malaysians to live without fear may not be attained without the sacrifices of the nation’s security forces, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said this was proven when Malaysia ranked 30th out of 163 countries as the most peaceful country on the Global Peace Index.

“When we watch the television, (we see attacks in) Manchester, Kabul, Jakarta and Marawi...Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), Kuala Lumpur or other cities are not mentioned.

“I am appalled every time I watch the television, fear if something were to happen but it did not. (That is) because peace doesn’t happen by accident.

“Why it (untoward incident) didn’t happen? Because of the sacrifices of our security forces, because of the bold pre-emptive action that we dare to embark on,” he said in his speech at the ‘Jalinan Ramadan 2017’ ceremony with uniform bodies organised by Wanita Umno here today.

Also present were Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and Umno treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

A total of 11,250 giveaway packs for Aidilfitri containing clothes and cookies were handed over to the representatives of 13 uniform bodies that attended the event .

Najib, who is also Umno president, expressed his appreciation to the security forces personnel who had been sacrificing their lives in the line of duty despite the festivity.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) that in Malaysia, whenever we mention about the joy or sweetness of Ramadan, we might not be able to achieve that without peace and security in our country.

“This is what we call a value which we cannot repay your sacrifices with these packets that we’re giving out today. It’s no match to the sacrifices of our Armed Forces...but we give out with a sincere heart,” he said.

The prime minister also gave assurance that the government would always take care the welfare of the security forces to the best of its ability. — Bernama
