SANDAKAN, June 1 — The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) seized 28,898 kilogrammes (kg) of subsidised cooking oil from a factory that was believed to have been meant for export.

Its enforcement director Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said two separate raids were carried out on May 23, at the Sandakan Port, and a factory involved in the packaging of subsidised cooking oil on May 25.

“Following two weeks of intelligence work, a lorry carrying 17,000kg of subsided cooking oil at the port was impounded at 7pm. The overall total of the one kg Red Diamond cooking oil packets to be exported abroad is worth RM42,500,” he said.

Mohd Roslan said in a press conference here today that two days later, the KPDNKK enforcement team raided a factory belonging to a licensed subsided cooking oil packer and seized two packing machines along with its equipment and 11,898kg of cooking oil worth approximately RM29,745.

He said, the amount of misused subsided goods was worth RM37,567 and the factory was believed to have carried out the activity for a long duration.

Mohd Roslan said the offences were being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Control of Supplies regulation 1974, and the licence as well as the company quota, would be suspended or revoked. — Bernama
