KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — The police have launched two new e-portals to ease the burden of the public in lodging non-criminal police reports such as the loss of identity cards (ICs) or passports.

Speaking at a press conference at the General Operations Force base in Cheras today, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said the Online Police Reporting System allows the public to lodge such reports with the police from the comfort of their own homes.

“In 2015 and 2016, over 80per cent to 90per cent of reports lodged in Kuala Lumpur are cases like people losing their ICs or passports, misplacing their handphones and runaway maids,” he was quoted saying by The Star Online.

Amar added that they also received good feedback based on the pilot programme launched at Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station in March this year.

“There was a positive response and we have decided to expand it to the contingent in Kuala Lumpur. Perhaps in the future, it will be open for the whole country,” he reportedly said.

Police also launched the Online Checking System, which allows members of the public who had lodged police reports to check the progress of their case.

“This one is open for police reports lodged anywhere in Malaysia,” he Amar.
