SEREMBAN, March 31 — A man was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to the charge of escaping from a court lockup here on March 10.
Seremban District Police Chief, ACP Thiew Hock Poh said in a statement here that the plea was made by P. Devaraajan, 29, before Magistrate Mohd Zaki Mohamad when seeking treatment for epilepsy at the Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Seremban, here at 12.10 pm today.
Thiew said he was charged under Section 224 of the Penal Code for deliberately escaping from valid detention.
“Mohd Zaki ordered the accused to undergo 12-month imprisonment from the date of his arrest,” he said.
On March 10, it was realised that the suspect was missing from the court lockup by his police escort at about 2.40 pm.
The man was, however, arrested by members of the Seremban District Police CID during a raid on a house in Taman Bukit Kelisa, here on March 24.
The suspect was earlier detained under Section 394 of the Penal Code for robbery. — Bernama
