KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 ― The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) is investigating a Thai woman’s allegation that an immigration officer raped her at a detention centre in Malacca.
EAIC chairman Datuk Yaacob Md Sam said the commission would check whether there was misconduct by immigration enforcement officers, and for possible violations of standard operating procedures and the Immigration Department’s circular on the management of detainees at the Machap Umboo immigration depot in Alor Gajah.
“Besides that, the EAIC will also leave it to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to conduct investigations on the criminal offence of rape based on the complainant’s police report.
“The EAIC views the complainant’s allegation seriously and will run an investigation that is transparent, without prejudice and without bias,” Yaacob said in a statement.
Local daily New Straits Times reported today a 32-year-old Thai masseuse’s claim that an immigration officer sexually assaulted her and forced her to perform oral sex on him at the Machap Umboo immigration depot on March 8, after immigration officers raided a massage centre in Melaka Raya.
The daily quoted the victim’s sister who related the allegation to the press yesterday.
