GEORGE TOWN, March 10 — A 42-year-old housewife was charged with the murder of her Indonesian maid and causing hurt to another maid at two separate courts here.
Chan Lay Lee was first charged with causing grievous hurt to her Cambodian maid, Anad, 22, using a metal pipe sometime between July 2016 and February 25 this year at her house in Lebuhraya Jelutong.
Charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons, Chan faces a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and whipping or both upon conviction.
In the magistrate's court, Chan was charged with the murder of Indonesian Zubaedah, 38, at the same house sometime between 11am and 4.45pm on February 26 this year.
She faces the death sentence for the murder charge under 302 of the Penal Code.
The Sessions Court judge Irwan Suaibonb and Magistrate Mohd Amin Shahul Hamid both set May 11 for case management of both cases.
Chan was not allowed bail as murder is a non-bailable offence.
The 38-year-old Indonesian maid was found dead on her bed in her employer's house in Lebuhraya Jelutong on February 26.
A post-mortem report has revealed that the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma to the chest.
