GEORGE TOWN, Dec 6 — Penang police aim to conclude investigations against a bodyguard who ran amok and shot several people by next week.
“The remand for the two suspects ends this Thursday and we will ask for another week’s extension from the magistrate then,” Penang police chief Commissioner Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab said.
Abdul Ghafar said the police have recorded 19 statements from witnesses and family members of those involved in the case.
Last Thursday, a bodyguard allegedly went on a rampage and fired shots at his employer, Datuk Ong Teik Kwang, and his driver.
Stray bullets killed two motorists passing by — Senthil Murugiah and Choi Hon Ming — and injured five others.
The five injured are Lee Hong Boon, 56, Nurul Huda Aziz, 38, Arivarni Krishnan, 33, Lim Boon Leng, 32, and RTM cameraman Mohamad Amirul Amin Mohamed Amer, 28.
According to Abdul Ghafar, initial investigations showed that the 37-year-old bodyguard first shot Ong, who was driving the car at the time.
“There was a struggle between him and the second suspect, the driver, and he hit the other person’s head before the latter got out of the car and ran,” he said.
The bodyguard gave chase and started shooting and he killed the first passer-by and injured another.
“We believed he is mentally unstable because he only worked for his employer for only one day, it is impossible for someone to develop such a strong anger against their employer within a day to spur them to shoot the employer,” he said.
He added that the police are also investigating the bodyguard’s health records to see if he had previous mental health issues.
