KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 ― Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia must stop chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad from criticising PAS if it intends for the two parties to cooperate, said the Islamist party’s vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

Nik Amar said PPBM cannot be trying to entice the Islamist party at the same time that Dr Mahathir was attacking PAS.

“If Bersatu (PPBM) is true about forming a relationship with PAS against BN in the coming general elections, Mahathir must be careful of what he says, and remember that he is no longer the PM... he must know his limits,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

The Kelantan lawmaker also took a swipe at Dr Mahathir for the latter’s newfound affinity for public demonstrations, pointing out that the former prime minister had not allowed such open protests during his time.

Dr Mahathir played a prominent role in the Bersih 5 rally on November 19, both urging Malaysians to join the protest and personally attending the event in Kuala Lumpur, cutting short a foreign trip in order to make it.

“For example, earlier he was against demonstration but now he is part of it...and he will only stop talking when everybody listens to him,” he added.

Nik Amar then suggested that Dr Mahathir was criticising PAS as he was not engaged in any productive work.

PPBM joined the informal Pakatan Harapan opposition pact earlier this month. The Umno splinter party had also been reportedly exploring cooperation with PAS.
