GEORGE TOWN, Oct 25 — Penang has the lowest median salary growth among all 16 states and territories for the period between 2010 to 2015, Gerakan insisted today.
The party secretary-general Liang Teck Meng also claimed that Penang recorded the fourth lowest median household income growth since 2010.
He requested that Penang Institute, as the state government’s think tank, verify if these two points were true on top of replying to his other 10 questions on the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) directed at Penang Institute’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Lim Kim Hwa.
“Bear in mind that the Penang Institute is funded by monies from the Penang public and not by the Chief Minister himself.
“Therefore, the Penang Institute has a sense of duty to answer any questions on the economy of Penang truthfully for the benefit of the Penang people,” he said in a statement issued today.
He expressed his disappointment with Penang Institute for refusing to answer all of his questions regarding Penang’s economic situation.
“There is no reason why the Penang Institute can help YAB Lim who is also the DAP’s Secretary-General and a politician, answer his questions but refuses to answer any of my questions,” he said.
He blamed the Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for dragging Kim Hwa and the Penang Institute into the dispute between him and Guan Eng on the state’s economic situation.
Earlier, Liang had initially claimed Penang had the lowest GDP per capita growth among all 15 states and territories for the period 2008 to 2015.
Guan Eng had responded with statistics and figures backed by Kim Hwa to dispute Liang’s claims.
