KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, a cosmetics millionaire better known as Dr Vida, was slapped today with 32 charges over failure to pay the Goods and Services Tax (GST) amounting to RM4.2 million.
National newswire Bernama reported that Vida, 45-year-old founder and owner of Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd that sells Qu Puteh products, pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Ipoh Sessions Court under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act 2014.
According to the charge sheet, Vida was accused of failing to produce accounts and of not paying GST totalling about RM4.2 million from April 2015, when the broad-based consumption tax was introduced in Malaysia, to July this year.
Bernama reported that Justice Murtazadi Amran set bail at RM1.76 million for all the charges and ordered the confiscation of Vida’s passport and travel documents pending the end of the trial.
