KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today conveyed his condolences to the family of the late Tengku Datuk Abdul Ghafar Mohamed who died this morning.

The late Tengku Datuk Abdul Ghafar was the Malaysian facilitator in the peace deal between the Philippines government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). 

“Received the news that Tengku Datuk Abdul Ghafar Mohamed, the Malaysian facilitator in the peace deal between the Philippines government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front has passed away.

“We lost a person who has contributed a lot. My condolences to his family.  Let’s recite the Al-Fatihah, may his soul be blessed,” Najib said in his Twitter account. 

According to former National Security Council secretary Datuk Mohamed Thajudeen Abdul Wahab, the late Tengku Abdul Ghafar died at his home in Bangsar South, here at 9am. 

Malaysia came on board the peace process in 2001 to help resolve the more than four decades of conflict in the southern Philippines. — Bernama
