KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 — The Magistrate’s Court here today sentenced an unemployed man to a total of 27 months’ jail for mischief and causing hurt on his two younger brothers.
Magistrate Mohd Faizal Ismail handed down the sentence on Mohamad Zaki Mokhtar, 33, who pleaded guilty to three charges.
He was sentenced to 12 months’ jail on the first count for committing mischief by smashing the glass window panes of his parents’ house at Block 90-17-01, Flat Sri Kota, Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras, here at 1pm last July 19.
The charge, under Section 427 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment for five years, or with fine, and any two of the punishments, if found guilty.
The two other charges were for causing hurt on his two brothers — Muhammad Khairul Azhar Mokhtar, 24, and Zamri Mokhtar, 29, — with glass fragments at the same place at 9pm last Aug 13.
The charges were made under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carried an imprisonment for up to a year, or with fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Mohamad Zaki was sentenced to six months’ jail for causing hurt on Muhammad Khairul Azhar and nine months’ jail for causing hurt on Zamri.
However, Mohamad Zaki would only be in jail for 12 months as the court ordered the jail sentences to be served concurrently from the date of his arrest, which was last Aug 14.
In mitigation, Mohamad Zaki, who was unrepresented, said he regretted his action and had a child to support.
