Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the ACCPCM was initially discussed in 2006 when the same conference was organised in the country.  

“After 10 years, the ACCPCM has finally materialised and police in Asean countries are now renewing (their) commitments and cooperation, particularly in cross-border crimes such as drug trafficking and smuggling,” he told a press conference after closing the conference here today.       

Khalid pointed out that the conference also saw the signing of the letter of intent (LOI) on cooperation between Aseanapol and the European Police (Europol).

“In addition, all 10 Asean countries have agreed to continue the Interpol Southeast Asian Foreign Fighters project in their bid to fight terrorism,” he said.   

Earlier, Khalid, in his speech, announced that Singapore would host the 37th Aseanapol Conference.   

Established in 1981, Aseanapol is a joint-body between police from countries in the Southeast Asia region such as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. — Bernama
