KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — A total of 607 policemen have been sacked from the force since 2013 for various offences ranging from corruption and misconduct to shirking their duties.
Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department director Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said that another 240 personnel have also been suspended for failing to perform their duties, The Star reported today.
Twenty-five policemen were expelled from the force this year.
He said that 284 policemen were dropped under Section 4(2)(g) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) for shirking their duties.
The daily reported 301 policemen were investigated for drug-related offences, crime, corruption and misconduct and of that figure, 257 have been convicted.
The Star also reported 38 senior officers were investigated, but did not state their alleged offences or misdemeanor.
Jalaluddin said his department is working with other agencies including the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia to “weed out the bad apples” by compiling information of misconduct within the force.
“Between July 2014 and February this year, JIPS has received 677 reports from eight agencies on police personnel misconduct.
“Out of the figure, 409 reports came from the MACC,” he was quoted as saying.
