KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today expressed his appreciation to all parties, especially the Election Commission and the security forces for the smooth by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar.
He also congratulated the voters in both constituencies for having exercised their responsibility as voters.
“To those who voted for PAS, I thank you for continuously having confidence in PAS,” he said in a statement here today.
He also expressed his appreciation to PAS election workers from all over the country for their hard work during the campaign period for the by-elections.
In the Kuala Kangsar by-election, PAS’ candidate Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, who obtained 5,684 votes, lost to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid (12,653).
Two other candidates, Prof Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli, from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), garnered 4,883 votes, while Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary obtained only 54 votes and lost his deposit.
In the Sungai Besar by-election, PAS’ candidate Dr Abdul Rani Osman, who secured 6,902 votes lost to Budiman Mohd Zohdi of BN. Budiman garnered 16,800 votes.
Another candidate, Azhar Abdul Shukur, from Amanah, obtained 7,609 votes. — Bernama
