SHAH ALAM, June 17 — An aircraft technician was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with supporting an IS terrorist group (Daesh) through Facebook two years ago.
However, no plea was recorded from Saiful Bahari Ahmad, 49, after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin.
The accused, a father of two, allegedly committed the offence through his Facebook account at No 2, VVIP Squadron, Subang Airbase near here around 7.33pm on June 12, 2014.
Saiful Bahari who was represented by counsel Halem Mohamad Husin was charged under Section 130(J)(1)(a) of the Penal Code which provides for life imprisonment or the maximum 30 years, or a fine, and likely forfeiture of any property used in connection with the offence.
The court did not grant bail as per Section 13 of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, (SOSMA).
Selangor Prosecution director, deputy public prosecutor Roslan Mat Nor conducted the prosecution.
The case was set for mention on July 19.
On June 8, another aircraft technician was charged at the Magistrate's Court here with encouraging IS (Daesh) terrorist membership and allegedly allowing meetings to be held in his house in support of the group's activities. — Bernama
